Image kindly supplied by Charlie Hoblyn. The house was built by a relative, Robert Hoblyn, who was MP for Bristol and a Stannator. He was very wealthy and hence he was able to commission the building (which was reputed to be) the most expensive house ever built in Cornwall at the time. The house was also arguably the first public library in Cornwall as anyone, with permission, was able to use the large library.
